Gokseong-gun Presents Cheongryeojang to Centenarian Elders
A Lightweight and Durable Staff Made from Myeongaju, Symbol of Health and Longevity Cheongryeojang
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jongseon] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Geun-gi) announced on the 8th that on the 7th, in celebration of the 25th Senior Citizens' Day, they visited the homes of centenarian elders this year and presented them with Cheongryeojang.
Cheongryeojang is a lightweight and sturdy cane made from millet, known as a symbol of health and longevity. Every year, to commemorate Senior Citizens' Day, it is presented to citizens who turn 100 years old along with a congratulatory letter from the President and longevity commemorative gifts. Mr. Yoo ○○ from Gyeommyeon, who received the Cheongryeojang, repeatedly expressed his gratitude and joy.
As of the end of September, Gokseong-gun is a longevity region where about 37% of the population is aged 65 or older, and it implements various welfare policies for the elderly. Representative programs include giving carnations to elderly living alone, providing filial piety encouragement funds to three-generation households, supporting bathing fees for vulnerable elderly, and supplying materials to revitalize senior centers for leisure activities of the elderly.
Yoo Geun-gi, Governor of Gokseong-gun, who presented the Cheongryeojang, said, “I sincerely congratulate you on reaching 100 years of healthy life. We will continue to strive for elderly welfare for a happy old age and create a community where elders are respected.”
