CJ Dosirak Gim and Yonggi Juk to Eliminate Trays and Disposable Spoons
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] CJ CheilJedang announced on the 7th that it will launch lunchbox seaweed and container porridge products without trays and disposable spoons, respectively, in line with the spread of eco-friendly consumption culture.
This effort is part of sustainable ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, aiming to actively reduce potential waste such as plastic. It also reflects customers' voices who wish to reduce the use of disposable items and plastics for the environment.
'CJ Myeongga Gim' will be released as 'Earth-conscious Myeongga Crispy Traditional Seaweed' by removing the transparent plastic tray. Sales will begin at Emart nationwide from mid-month and will be expanded to other distribution channels in the future.
'Bibigo Container Porridge' will be sold without the disposable spoon included in the product starting in November. However, if consumers need it, disposable spoons will be separately provided at convenience stores selling the container porridge.
By removing the lunchbox seaweed tray and container porridge spoon, an annual reduction of over 100 tons of plastic is expected. Hetbahn Cupban is also preparing to launch products without disposable spoons starting next year.
A CJ CheilJedang official said, "In line with the expanding trend of value consumption, we are focusing more on eco-friendly packaging that reduces plastic use and expands resource circulation," adding, "We will continue various efforts to approach consumers as an environmentally conscious company."
