Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hosts Northeast Asia Cooperation Forum... Discussing Regional Confidence-Building Measures and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 1st that, together with the Korea National Diplomatic Academy, it will hold the "2021 Northeast Asia Peace Cooperation Forum" on the 6th and 7th under the theme of "Northeast Asia of Peace, Security, and Prosperity: From Competition to Cooperation."
The Northeast Asia Peace Cooperation Forum is a key implementation measure of the Northeast Asia peace cooperation platform project that the Korean government is promoting with the goal of accumulating practices of multilateral dialogue and cooperation within the Northeast Asian region. It is attended annually by academia and experts from major regional countries (Korea, China, Japan, Mongolia, the U.S., Russia) as well as external dialogue partners.
All sessions of this forum will be open meetings accessible to the general public, conducted in a hybrid format combining non-face-to-face video conferencing and small-scale on-site attendance, and will be broadcast live through the Korea National Diplomatic Academy's YouTube channel.

On the first day of the meeting, the 6th, the forum will begin with an opening address by Hong Hyun-ik, President of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy, followed by interview videos featuring figures related to Northeast Asian regional cooperation and experts from various sectors of society to gather diverse opinions on regional cooperation. Session 1, moderated by Professor Kim Tae-hwan of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy’s Institute of Foreign Affairs and Security, will discuss what common values and visions Northeast Asia pursues and how regional confidence-building and peace cooperation can be achieved. Session 2, moderated by Lee Sang-hyun, Director of the Sejong Institute, will discuss Northeast Asia crisis management measures focusing on nuclear accident response.
