According to Gwangju City on the 1st, the 'Manseon~Geoneop' section of Local Road No. 98 will be expanded to 4 lanes over 1.8 km with a total project cost of 25.5 billion KRW. This road has experienced traffic congestion due to connections with the Donggonjiam IC of the 2nd Yeongdong Expressway and the Yeolmi IC of the Seongnam~Janghowon Motorway.
The 'Yujeong~Jinwoo' section will be expanded to 4 lanes over 3.5 km, with a total project cost of 39.9 billion KRW. This road is expected to face traffic congestion due to increased vehicle use from logistics trucks serving the Docheok logistics complex and the connection to the Docheok IC of the Icheon~Osan Expressway, scheduled to open in 2022.
Shin Dong-heon, mayor of Gwangju City, expressed his expectation that "the expansion of the two Local Road No. 98 routes proposed in the 5th National Road and Local Road Construction Plan will not only alleviate surrounding traffic congestion but also contribute to the safety and convenience of citizens."
