[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, will ease the support obligation criteria for the Basic Livelihood Security livelihood benefits starting next month.

According to the county on the 28th, the relaxation of the selection criteria for the Basic Livelihood Security livelihood benefits is because there were many cases where applicants hesitated to apply for benefits due to having a "family member who can provide support," such as a first-degree lineal relative or spouse, or the burden of having to prove that the obligated supporter lacks the ability to provide support.

From now on, if the recognized income amount of the applicant's household meets the selection criteria, only the public data of the obligated supporter will be investigated to determine eligibility for livelihood benefits.

However, if the obligated supporter's household income is 100 million KRW or more annually, or if they have assets worth 900 million KRW, the support obligation criteria will continue to apply.

Also, the support obligation criteria will be relaxed only for the Basic Livelihood Security livelihood benefits, while the criteria will still apply to those eligible for basic medical benefits.

Furthermore, owning or using vehicles other than certain vehicles such as those used by disabled persons or trucks for agricultural income activities may be grounds for exclusion from receiving basic livelihood benefits, so detailed consultation with the welfare office at the local town or township office is necessary.

A county official stated, "We will do our best to help resolve difficulties faced by vulnerable households and welfare blind spots through the relaxation of the support obligation criteria."
