SK Files Complaint Against Lawyer Who Raised Hwacheondaeyu Allegations "Spreading False Information, Defamation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] SK Group has taken legal action in relation to the Hwacheon Daeyu suspicion case.
SK Inc., the holding company of SK Group, announced on the 27th that it has filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against lawyer Jeon Mo for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation) by continuously spreading false information about SK Group and Chairman Chey Tae-won through Facebook posts and YouTube broadcasts.
SK stated, "Lawyer Jeon recently appeared on a YouTube broadcast and continuously spread baseless false information such as the Daejang-dong case being closer to an 'SK Gate' involving SK affiliates, and that Chairman Chey is the actual owner of Hwacheon Daeyu, seriously damaging the reputation of SK Group and Chairman Chey."
SK also emphasized, "Initially, lawyer Jeon pointed out the possibility of SK personnel being involved in the Daejang-dong development by citing rumors or hearsay, but recently he has spread false information as if the facts have been confirmed, seriously damaging the reputation of SK Group and Chairman Chey."

An SK official said, "Even though we fully respect and acknowledge freedom of expression, in the current internet and SNS environment, continuously spreading baseless false information can cause irreparable damage to companies and businesspeople," adding, "We will firmly respond to baseless slander and the spread of false information in the future as well."
