Seoul City Conducts 'In-depth Survey on Single-person Households' Post-COVID to Identify Five Major Anxieties
Survey of 3,000 Single-Person Households Conducted After Selecting a Professional Research Firm in September
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 26th that it is promoting the "Single-Person Household Survey and Institutional Improvement Academic Research" in collaboration with the Seoul Institute to create a policy environment that addresses housing, safety, poverty, illness, and loneliness for single-person households and improves their quality of life.
Seoul plans to conduct a thorough analysis of the current status and conditions of single-person households, the policies being implemented, and issues in the service delivery system, aiming to differentiate this study from previous research. The Seoul Institute, the research executing organization, will conduct a survey starting in September through a professional research firm targeting 3,000 single-person households residing in Seoul to understand their living conditions and policy needs.
Additionally, an online forum will be held with experts from various fields related to single-person households to discuss the current status and trends, policy recommendations, and awareness enhancement. For this research, in August, the Seoul Institute formed the ‘Single-Person Household Policy Forum,’ which includes experts in demographics, big data, and five major fields related to single-person households.
The policy forum includes a total of 23 experts from related organizations closely connected to single-person household research, such as the Seoul Foundation of Women & Family, 50 Plus Foundation, Welfare Foundation, Public Health Medical Foundation, and SH Corporation. Notably, the general subcommittee forum titled "Multidimensional Characteristics and Typology of Single-Person Households: The Starting Point for Support Directions and Strategies," scheduled for October, will be held as an online public event.
Seoul plans to use the results of the survey and the online policy forum as basic data for establishing the "Special Measures for Single-Person Households" and to promote policies with high citizen awareness and satisfaction.
