Group BTS, attending the United Nations General Assembly as representatives of the youth generation, mentioned the importance of COVID-19 vaccination in their speech.
In response, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) posted a message on their official Twitter on the 21st, expressing gratitude by saying, "Thank you to BTS for delivering an important message."
Earlier, BTS spoke as representatives of youth and future generations at the opening session of the UN General Assembly special event "Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Moment" held at the UN Headquarters General Assembly Hall the previous day.
In the speech, BTS revealed that all members had completed their vaccinations. They emphasized, "Efforts to continue the new normal, including vaccination, are ongoing," and added, "Vaccination is like a ticket we must have to meet the fans waiting for us and to come to this place."
Immediately after BTS's speech, posts certifying vaccination by BTS fan club 'Army' appeared one after another on Twitter. They posted with the hashtag #ARMYvaccinatedtoo.
They also encouraged vaccination to overcome COVID-19 by continuously uploading 'certification shots' capturing their vaccination certificates.
Posts related to the 'welcome generation' emphasized by BTS in their speech also followed. This was in response to BTS referring to the youth generation as a generation that walks forward without fear of change, saying "welcome."
Meanwhile, this is BTS's third speech at the UN General Assembly. BTS participated in the UNICEF youth agenda "Generation Unlimited" presentation event held at the 73rd UN General Assembly in September 2018. At that time, BTS member RM urged the younger generation to "love themselves and raise their voices" by sharing personal experiences.
