"Looking to Start a Business with Petroleum Data?" Korea National Oil Corporation Hosts Idea Contest
Two Categories for Startup Ideas and Service Improvement Open Until October 13
Supporting Private Startups Using Petroleum Data and Improving Petroleum Information Services
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Korea National Oil Corporation is looking for citizens who come up with creative ideas using oil data.
From the 16th until October 13, the Oil Corporation plans to hold the "Oil Data Utilization Idea Contest" to collect ideas from the public.
The Oil Corporation opens domestic and international oil prices and oil supply and demand data, including real-time sales prices from over 12,000 gas stations nationwide, through the corporation's Opinet, Petronet, and the government's Public Data Portal.
They continuously provide oil information services in collaboration with private companies such as Naver, Kakao, and SK Telecom T-Map.
Opinet is an oil price information service that provides information such as finding cheap gas stations and sales prices of refiners, agencies, gas stations, and LPG operators.
Petronet is a comprehensive oil information service that provides domestic and international oil supply and demand statistics, oil news and trends, and analysis reports.
This contest aims to discover ideas to enhance the usability of oil data owned by the Oil Corporation.
The contest categories are △ Startup Ideas △ Service (Opinet, Petronet) Improvement Ideas, totaling two sections.
Submitted ideas will undergo a first internal evaluation and a second fair review by a judging panel, selecting one winner each for the grand prize, excellence, and encouragement categories, with awards given in mid-November.
Winning ideas will later be reflected in supporting private startups and improving services.
Prize money is 2 million KRW for the grand prize, 1 million KRW for excellence, and 500,000 KRW for encouragement.

The Oil Corporation plans to actively support value creation using oil data by holding an excellent case competition for small and medium enterprises and individual developers utilizing Opinet data at the end of this year.
