Change in Garak Market Chuseok Holiday ... Fruit Category Closed After Morning Auction on September 18
Vegetable Category Initially Scheduled for September 19, Now Closing Two Days Earlier After Evening Auction on September 17
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation (President Kim Kyung-ho) has decided to advance the start date of the Chuseok holiday closure at Garak Market to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
This change moves the closure start date about two days earlier than originally planned, while the reopening date remains the same.
The change in the closure dates was decided after meetings of the Garak Market COVID-19 Emergency Response Headquarters (Seoul City, Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, the Corporation, etc.), meetings with related organizations responding to the COVID-19 spread at Garak Market, and consultations with distribution workers.
Accordingly, the vegetable section will begin its closure two days earlier, after the evening auction on September 17 instead of the originally planned September 19.
Similarly, the fruit section’s closure start date has been changed from the morning auction on September 20 to the morning auction on September 18. The seafood section, including dried fish and shellfish, will also close two days earlier, after the morning auction on September 18, and will resume operations starting from the evening auction on September 23.

Lee Ni-se, Head of the Distribution Division, stated, “The change in closure dates is an unavoidable measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within Garak Market. Before resuming auctions, all distribution workers will be required to undergo pre-screening for COVID-19 and only those who test negative will be allowed to return to the market, ensuring a thorough normalization of Garak Market.”
