Opening of Borimadang Village Management Social Cooperative
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 14th that it is accelerating the promotion of the Seosandong Borimadang Urban Regeneration New Deal Project.
The city, which has been promoting this project since 2018 to improve the residential environment of Seosandong Borimadang and create a space that tourists want to visit, held a plaque ceremony on the 13th for the resident management entity, the ‘Borimadang Village Management Social Cooperative’.
The cooperative has completed consulting, mandatory education, inaugural general meeting, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport approval, and corporate registration, and has established an office at 4, Haean-ro 105beon-gil to perform roles such as rental housing, village restaurant, seafood drying business, and entrusted management of public facilities.
To foster the village community, the city organized the cooperative by operating the Urban Regeneration University three times. Along with this, it has actively promoted software projects for village revitalization such as producing village promotional videos and creating and exhibiting village promotional products through resident public contest projects with 3 teams in 2019 and 10 teams in 2020.
The Seosandong Borimadang Urban Regeneration New Deal Project is a project aimed at revitalizing the village by utilizing idle resources and landscape resources within the target area for sustainable urban regeneration. It consists of hardware projects such as creating a youth culture and arts creative village and landscape paths, and software projects such as operating the Urban Regeneration University.
In July this year, the city obtained final approval for the revised project plan of the Seosandong Borimadang Urban Regeneration New Deal Project from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Urban Regeneration Special Committee, and is promoting the project by investing 18 billion KRW (10 billion KRW national funds, 8 billion KRW local funds) in the seed money project, and 6.27 billion KRW (2.82 billion KRW national, 3.45 billion KRW public enterprise) in public enterprise and ministry cooperation projects respectively.
Also, the Seosandong Borimadang public parking lot was completed and opened this year, and the construction of Borimadang-ro is currently underway. In addition, construction has started for the parking lot at the former Saeng Children’s Center site and for public convenience facilities.
Going forward, the city plans to promote ▲house repair support ▲creation of Borideung (Borihill) ▲creation of youth culture and arts creative village ▲creation of Happy Community Center. In addition, as a public enterprise and ministry cooperation project, the city plans to remodel the Plaza Officetel into rental housing and supply it.

A city official stated, “To ensure a happy life for residents of the Seosandong area, we will improve the residential environment and create a village with themes rich in things to enjoy and think about, so that Borimadang can become a space satisfying both residents and tourists.”
