The 'Dongseong-ro Spark' Ferris Wheel, which began operation in January last year just before COVID-19 was first detected in Korea, has served as the light (spark) of 'Dongseong-ro' without missing a single day for 17 months since April 10, despite several business restriction crises.
The Ferris Wheel is located on the rooftop of the theme park shopping mall 'Dongseong-ro Spark,' built on the site of the old Gongpyeong parking lot in Jung-gu, Daegu.
Dongseong-ro Spark, developed by Dowon Investment & Development Co., Ltd., attracted attention from the beginning with its bold plan to introduce a grand Ferris Wheel while constructing the shopping mall.
The Ferris Wheel is a ride commonly seen alongside carousels in historic amusement parks worldwide. For the middle-aged generation who remember the 'Honeymoon Car' once installed at Seoul's Changgyeongwon or the 'Rotating Car' at Busan's Taejongdae, it is truly a symbol of childhood memories.
Now, the Ferris Wheel steadily remains popular as a dating spot for couples in downtown Daegu. As riders ascend to the peak, they can enjoy a panoramic view of Daegu's city center and experience thrilling excitement through the glass floor beneath their feet.
Constructed by local construction company Taewang Construction, Dongseong-ro Spark was honored with the '29th Daegu City Architecture Award' last November, recognized for overcoming the simplicity and monotony often associated with large commercial facilities.
Since its opening on January 17 last year, Dongseong-ro Spark has housed famous F&B brands such as Shake Shack, Barmisushi, To-Go Salad, and Yubangnyeong's Shin (scheduled to open in September), as well as top domestic brands like A-Land, 8Seconds, and TopTen.
