President Moon: "Proud of the Coast Guard's Revival and Its Transformation into a Competent Organization"
68th Anniversary Marine Police Day Commemoration Video Congratulatory Address... "Strong Maritime Power, the Foundation of Peace and Prosperity"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in, in a video congratulatory message at the 68th Marine Police Day ceremony on the 10th, said, "I am very proud that the Marine Police was revived under our government and has been reborn as a strong and competent organization," adding, "I am even prouder of all of you who have continuously innovated yourselves to become a Marine Police force you can be proud of."
President Moon stated, "Since the revival of the Marine Police, over the past four years, you have repeatedly made efforts to regain the trust of the people and have tirelessly worked to become a 'Marine Police strong on the ground and trusted by the public,'" and evaluated, "Through intensive innovation, the on-site response system has been improved. The response time to distress accidents has been reduced to within 30 minutes, and the rescue rate of lives in maritime accidents has been raised to 99.6%."
President Moon explained, "Compared to 2017, when our government took office, casualties have decreased by 35%. From the West Sea NLL to Namhae Ieodo and the East Sea Dokdo, patrolling seas more than four times the land area, the Marine Police has flawlessly protected maritime sovereignty and the rights and interests of the people."
President Moon Jae-in is delivering a congratulatory message via video at the '68th Maritime Police Day' ceremony held on the 10th at the Chungmusa Room of the Blue House.

President Moon said, "The sea is the strength of the Republic of Korea, a maritime nation and a trading powerhouse. For us, the sea is security, economy, and livelihood," adding, "Out of 44 national industrial complexes, 20 are adjacent to ports. 99.7% of our import and export cargo and 100% of key resources such as crude oil and iron ore use sea routes." In particular, President Moon emphasized, "A strong maritime force is the foundation of Korea's peace and prosperity."
President Moon said, "We have a painful history of losing our maritime power and having our country invaded and taken away. It is a shameful history that our people and the Marine Police must reflect on together," and added, "When we turn the map of our country upside down, the vast ocean before us should be an asset for our national power to extend. At the forefront of that is the Marine Police."
