Gyeonggi-do Corporation, First Public Institution to Introduce '35-Hour Workweek'
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi-do Corporation will be the first public institution to introduce a 35-hour workweek. This measure aims to enhance work efficiency and lead the spread of a work-life balance culture.
Gyeonggi-do Corporation announced on the 8th that it finalized the introduction of the 35-hour workweek at a labor-management council meeting.
Previously, due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, Gyeonggi-do Corporation implemented shift-based telecommuting and temporarily reduced the current working hours from 40 hours per week to 35 hours.
Accordingly, employees avoided crowded commuting hours by starting work at 10 a.m. and finishing at 6 p.m.
Gyeonggi-do Corporation expects that the introduction of the 35-hour workweek will greatly help secure outstanding talent. It believes that the limitations of public institutions, which cannot recruit talent with high salaries comparable to private companies, can be compensated by differentiated welfare such as better working conditions, enabling the acquisition of excellent personnel.
Lee Seok-hoon, CEO of Gyeonggi-do Corporation, said, "Since we started proactively responding to COVID-19, there have been improvements in employees' quality of life and positive sales results," adding, "Trust between labor and management is most important, and we expect that the introduction of the 35-hour workweek will greatly contribute to the company's development."
