Japan Likely to Extend COVID-19 State of Emergency in the Capital Region for 2-3 Weeks
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Local media reported on the 5th that the Japanese government is coordinating to extend the COVID-19 state of emergency issued in the metropolitan area and other regions.
Currently, out of the 47 prefectures in Japan, a COVID-19 state of emergency aimed at suppressing population movement has been declared in 21 prefectures. The deadline for the declaration is until the 12th.
The Japanese government is reportedly likely to extend the state of emergency period by about 2 to 3 weeks in the four metropolitan prefectures, including Tokyo.
Although the daily number of COVID-19 cases in Japan has recently been decreasing, the pressure on hospital beds remains severe.
