SY Supplies Panels for Rapid Construction of COVID-19 Field Hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Comprehensive building materials company SWY announced on the 3rd that it completed the delivery of sandwich panels covering an area of 30,000 square meters within the deadline for the rapid construction of a COVID-19 field hospital located in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The company explained that it supplied products made of flame-retardant EPS with excellent insulation performance to the site. It added that these were used for the hospital's exterior walls, interior walls, and entrance doors. To ensure fast and accurate delivery, raw materials were imported from Korea, and coils and color steel plates were sourced locally in Vietnam for the work.
According to SWY, the field hospital was urgently built within a month on a 3.5-hectare site in Hoang Mai District’s old Yen So Ward, invested by Hanoi Medical University with full support from Hanoi City. This was an emergency measure following the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in 440,000 confirmed cases in Vietnam since April.
To expedite the field hospital construction, SWY directly collaborated with the local construction company Delta Construction Group and shared material delivery and design plans. Since a large volume of materials had to be installed within a limited time, close cooperation was essential to maintain material quality.
As a result, the hospital construction, which began on July 24, was successfully completed at the end of last month after about a month. The sandwich panel installation took place over approximately two weeks from the 4th to the 20th of last month. Official operation started on the 1st of this month.
About 1,000 medical staff were deployed from the beginning to increase the operation rate, and the hospital consists of three buildings with a total of 500 beds. More than 60 disinfection bathrooms were also fully equipped. This is the largest scale in Vietnam. Hanoi plans to build three more specialized COVID-19 hospitals following this one.
An SWY official said, “We approached the field hospital construction project with a sense of responsibility and desire to contribute to the eradication of COVID-19 in Vietnam,” adding, “We are also considering ways to utilize the ‘Mobile Negative Pressure Ward Module,’ a self-developed special isolation facility that blocks virus leakage.”
He continued, “Despite the impact of COVID-19, the Hanoi branch’s sales have been increasing year by year,” and added, “As the only listed company in the industry operating a local production plant, SWY can be a good partner for companies entering ASEAN for factory construction.”
