2021 Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival, Korea Lantern (Deung) Contest Held
Applications accepted from September 17 to 27, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and prize money of 10 million KRW
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 2nd that it will hold the "2021 Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival Korea Lantern (燈) Contest," where craft artists from across the country showcase unique and beautiful lantern works.
The contest is hosted by Jinju City and jointly organized by the Jinju Cultural Arts Foundation and the Jinju branch of the Korea Fine Arts Association. It has been held since 2013, proudly displaying the beautiful sculptural beauty of lanterns (燈).
This year's contest theme is "Traditional or Creative Lanterns Capturing the Beauty of Water, Fire, and Light." Eligibility is open to individuals aged 18 or older, regardless of nationality, who have experience or interest in lantern making.
Design proposals will be accepted from September 17 to 27, and physical works will be accepted over two days on November 27 and 28. A creative support fund will be provided upon submission of physical works. The submission size must have a combined width × length × height, including the base, between 2 meters and 4 meters.

Awards for outstanding works include one Grand Prize winner receiving the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and a prize of 10 million KRW, one Excellence Award winner with 7 million KRW, three Merit Award winners with 5 million KRW each, and five Special Award winners with 2 million KRW each. The winning works will be exhibited at the festival site inside Jinju Fortress from December 4 to 31 during the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival.
