[Gangjin＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin County in Jeonnam will hold the 49th Gangjin Celadon Festival online from October 1 to 7 due to strengthened social distancing measures amid the 4th wave of COVID-19.

According to the county on the 31st, at the Gangjin Celadon Festival Committee meeting held on the 26th, it was decided to hold the Gangjin Celadon Festival online and cancel the 6th Gangjin Bay Dancing Reed Festival due to concerns over the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the rapid community spread of the Delta variant.

Marking its 49th year, the Gangjin Celadon Festival will be held live on Gangjin County’s YouTube channel ‘Jjin’ from October 1 to 7 under the theme “Login to Gangjin PumAe.” The festival will feature various online programs including the Gangjin Smart Quiz Show, Healing Busker performances, Gangjin Celadon Valley Online Concert, town and township singing contests, Cultural Arts Healing Day, Gangjin Premium Celadon Auction, and special product sales.

In particular, prior to the festival, there will be a promotional event offering prizes through YouTube subscriptions and comment draws, actively promoting the online Celadon Festival for the first time.

Last year, the festival was canceled due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19, but this year, by holding it online, it is expected to comfort the hearts of residents weary from the pandemic and serve as an opportunity for community unity in preparing for the recovery of daily life.

Hwang Ho-yong, Chairman of the Local Festival Promotion Committee, said, “To prevent further spread of COVID-19, this year’s Celadon Festival will be held online. Although it will be non-face-to-face, we will do our best to prepare the festival so that residents and tourists can fully enjoy the various programs.”
