Gwangju Civic Groups Association "Thorough Investigation and Punishment of Those Responsible for Hakdong Building Collapse"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Civic groups in the Gwangju area have called for a thorough investigation and punishment of those responsible in connection with the demolition building collapse accident that resulted in 17 casualties.
The Gwangju Citizens' Coalition announced on the 27th that they condemn the police's inadequate investigation that conceals the truth and the government's irresponsibility.
The group stated, “We are outraged by the police's inadequate investigation, which has clearly been an effort to hide the truth,” and demanded, “Disband the current investigation headquarters and establish a new investigation team equivalent to a special investigation headquarters.”
They continued, “The police, the Moon Jae-in administration, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and the Democratic Party should not misjudge that they can roughly cover up the truth of the Hakdong disaster,” emphasizing, “Correct the inadequate investigation that conceals the truth and immediately take action to uncover the truth of the disaster.”
They also urged, “Form a new support team to stand with the bereaved families until the moment they say it is enough,” and insisted, “Although Gwangju City is the main body of the disaster, it has mocked and shaken the bereaved families and the injured with money without a sincere apology. Strip Hyundai Development Company's construction rights and create a memorial space for the bereaved families.”
