Aniplus Reports 111.6% Year-on-Year Increase in First Half Sales... "OTT Growth"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Global content and media company Aniplus announced on the 27th that its cumulative sales for the first half of the year on a consolidated basis reached 14.9 billion KRW, an increase of 111.6% compared to the same period last year. Operating profit and net profit were 4.6 billion KRW and 3.5 billion KRW, respectively.
The reasons for the strong performance include ▲ significant growth in OTT sales due to an increase in the number of distributed works, ▲ increased product sales from the launch of new directly operated shops in major cities nationwide, and ▲ improved business performance due to the revitalization of subsidiary businesses.
Subsidiaries also showed improved results. The subsidiary Plus Media Network Asia (hereinafter PMNA), which started new channel broadcasts such as Hong Kong NOW TV and the Philippines Cignal, recorded sales of 2.8 billion KRW, a 37.8% increase compared to the same period last year, driven by increased OTT sales from Chinese platforms such as iQIYI, Bilibili, and Tencent. Both operating profit and net profit turned positive.
Additionally, Media & Art, a subsidiary whose 'Yoshiko Photo Exhibition' ranked first in the domestic exhibition market, saw ticket and MD revenue grow significantly, recording sales of 1.1 billion KRW, a 170.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
An Aniplus official emphasized, "The share of newly secured animation titles in the second half exceeds 70%, and with a lineup focused on popular blockbusters, we expect to continue breaking records for maximum performance in the second half following the first half. The subsidiaries’ business areas are also progressing smoothly, which is expected to sustain the earnings surprise."
