[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The death toll from the bomb attack near Kabul Airport in Afghanistan has surpassed 100. The number of U.S. military casualties has also risen from 12 to 13.
On the 26th (local time), according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), two suicide bombings near Kabul Airport, claimed by the extremist terrorist group Islamic State (IS), have resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. soldiers and 90 local Afghans. Earlier that evening, two explosions occurred at the Abbey Gate of Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul and at the Baron Hotel about 250 meters away, causing casualties.
The number of injured is estimated to be much higher. The U.S. Department of Defense announced that the number of wounded, previously reported as 15, has increased to 18. While the exact number of injured locals is not confirmed, the Associated Press cited an Afghan health official reporting at least 143 injured. Recovery efforts at the scene are ongoing, so the death and injury tolls are expected to rise further.
