'Uiseong-gun, the "Capital of Curling," Opens New Curling Center Annex'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Uiseong County held an opening ceremony for the new building of the Uiseong Curling Center on the 26th, attended by Kim Jusu, Uiseong County Governor, the chairman of the Uiseong County Council, the president of the Gyeongbuk Disabled Curling Association, the president of the Uiseong Curling Association, and about 20 curling student athletes.
Uiseong County invested 6 billion KRW to begin construction of the Uiseong Curling Center in 2017, completing it in December last year. The new building has a total floor area of 1,737㎡ and includes two curling sheets, spectator seats, and auxiliary facilities.
The newly constructed Curling Center (new building) is the largest curling arena in Korea equipped with international standards. It will be used not only for various competitions and training but also as a space for community sports activities for residents.
The county expects this to greatly contribute to expanding the base of curling by discovering and nurturing curling athletes through sports club activities for elementary, middle, and high school students in the area, as well as providing curling experience activities for residents.
