US Evacuates Nearly 20,000 People from Afghanistan in One Day... Total Over 80,000
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hye-min] The White House announced on the 25th (local time) that an additional 19,000 people were evacuated from Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, in the past day.
Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan on the 14th, a total of 82,300 Americans and Afghan collaborators have escaped from Afghanistan. Nearly 20,000 people were evacuated in this operation, involving 42 U.S. military flights and 48 allied aircraft flights.
President Joe Biden has set the withdrawal deadline for U.S. troops as originally planned on the 31st, despite requests for extension. With just over a week remaining, it is uncertain whether all Afghans exposed to Taliban retaliation threats can be evacuated.
