Haenam-gun Temporarily Suspends Public Jobs Amid Cabbage Transplanting Season
From the 30th of this month to the 13th of next month, 15 days of expanding rural labor force
[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jeonnam Haenam-gun announced on the 25th that it will temporarily suspend the operation of public jobs as the full-scale cabbage planting season begins.
The period is 15 days from the 30th of this month to the 13th of next month, and the decision to temporarily suspend was made to resolve the labor shortage of farms caused by public jobs.
During this period, 212 participants in two projects, including the creation of flower gardens on idle land, will completely stop working, and 95 participants in the COVID-19 town and township area quarantine job project will change their working hours from 5 days a week to an alternate day system of 2.5 days a week.
For 52 participants in workplaces where it is difficult to suspend the project or apply selective working hours due to the nature of the job site, a ‘prior approval system for absence’ will be implemented, so participants who take leave after prior approval for the purpose of participating in rural labor will not be penalized.
However, participants responsible for COVID-19 fever checks at entrances of public facilities or social welfare facilities and those participating in COVID-19 response duties at multi-use facilities are excluded from this.
Working hours during the project suspension period will be compensated through project period extension or supplementation of daily working hours to make up for wages.
Haenam-gun’s second half public jobs include 318 people in the Hope Job Project (5 types including Youth Work Experience Dream), 103 people in the Hope Labor Job (2 types including Vaccine Vaccination Center Support), and 23 people in the Community Job Project (5 fields including maintenance of Yang Han-muk’s birthplace Mugunghwa Garden), with a total of 470 people participating at 129 locations. The working period is four months until the end of November.
A county official said, “As the COVID-19 situation prolongs and employment shocks intensify, we are actively providing public jobs to low-income vulnerable groups and COVID-19 income-vulnerable groups to overcome the local economic crisis,” and added, “We hope that temporarily suspending public jobs during this busy farming season will be of great help to farms facing labor shortages.”
