[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) submitted an additional supplementary budget plan totaling 77.7 billion KRW to the district council on the 20th to strengthen COVID-19 response and revitalize the local economy.
This supplementary budget represents an 8.9% increase compared to the district's existing budget. The district council will review the supplementary budget starting from the 30th and finalize it on September 10.
Through this supplementary budget, the district aims to actively support groups affected by COVID-19, recover the stagnant economy, and ensure ongoing projects proceed without disruption.
First, 13 billion KRW was allocated to strengthen COVID-19 prevention and support livelihood recovery. This includes 10.4 billion KRW for the district’s share of the government’s ‘COVID-19 Coexistence National Support Fund,’ 900 million KRW for living support expenses for those in self-quarantine, and 200 million KRW for a public-private joint campaign responding to COVID-19.
To revitalize the local economy, 4 billion KRW was reflected. This includes 2.3 billion KRW for public job support such as the Hope Work program in the second half of the year, and 300 million KRW in subsidies to activate traditional markets. Additionally, 800 million KRW will be invested in the startup support center project, which is being prepared for occupancy next year.
Furthermore, 15 billion KRW was allocated for urban development and local environmental improvement, including free rental of food waste collection containers and support for apartment complex management. In the education, culture, and community sports sectors, 1.7 billion KRW was reflected for operations such as the Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center and the creation of Jungnang Mangwoo Space.
Welfare and urban safety were also prioritized. A total of 5.1 billion KRW was allocated for livelihood benefits, personnel expenses for childcare staff, and expansion of CCTV in university area one-room apartments.
Additionally, 1.5 billion KRW was allocated for projects where residents directly propose necessary neighborhood projects such as alleyway maintenance and park creation, with the district selecting and supporting these projects.
