'Korean Boxing Legend' Jang Jeong-gu Booked on Taxi Driver Assault Charges
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Jang Jeong-gu (58), a former World Boxing Council (WBC) light flyweight champion, was arrested by the police on charges of assaulting a taxi driver.
According to the police on the 21st, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul booked Jang under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes for assaulting a driver.
Jang is accused of assaulting the taxi driver during an altercation while getting out of the taxi at around 9:20 p.m. the previous day.
The taxi driver was not seriously injured, and it is known that Jang was intoxicated at the time. The police are investigating the exact circumstances.

Jang won the WBC light flyweight title in 1983 and successfully defended it 15 times until 1988. In 2009, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF), becoming the first Korean to receive this honor.
