Gwangju Nam-gu Operates Investigation and Counseling Office for 'Abused Child Protection'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byung-nae) has decided to establish a child abuse investigation and counseling room at the district office.
Nam-gu announced on the 19th that it will install a child abuse investigation and counseling room within the Child Happiness Division office on the 8th floor of the district office to enable prompt initial response and psychological treatment through counseling.
The counseling room will be created with a size of at least 16.5㎡, and it is expected to open around October after construction is completed.
In particular, to allow abused children to receive counseling in a natural atmosphere, a comfortable indoor environment will be created, and soundproof doors will be installed to prevent conversations from leaking outside. Additionally, sound-absorbing materials will be used on the interior walls to build the counseling room.
Recording devices and CCTV will also be provided, and a counseling confirmation lamp will be installed so that the progress of counseling can be monitored from outside.
A rapid response system to protect abused children in the event of abuse incidents has also been established.
To this end, Nam-gu newly established the Child Happiness Division as the responsible department through an organizational restructuring last month, and assigned dedicated public officials for child abuse within the new division.
The dedicated child abuse public officials maintain a 24/7 on-duty system to protect abused children at all times in case of emergency situations.
A Nam-gu official stated, "We will do our best in child abuse-related work by establishing a thorough protection system including prompt protection of abused children so that our children can grow up healthy and happy in a safe environment."
