Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Embassy Operations to Continue in Doha, Qatar Until Afghan Situation Stabilizes
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] As the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, leading to the temporary closure of our embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that embassy operations will be conducted from Doha, Qatar for the time being.
On the 17th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "The government plans to carry out the duties of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Afghanistan in Doha, Qatar until the situation in Afghanistan stabilizes."
With the Taliban's occupation of the capital Kabul, our government decided on the 16th to temporarily withdraw the embassy, leaving only three diplomatic staff members, including the ambassador to Afghanistan, to assist one Korean national in escaping locally.
That morning, one Korean national and three diplomatic staff successfully escaped by boarding a third-country bound flight at Kabul airport, effectively completing the withdrawal.
