[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam, completed the establishment of a children's playground facility on the vacant land of Mulchooul Park in Chungmugong-dong at 10:30 a.m. on the 17th and held a commemorative tree-planting ceremony.
The city signed a business agreement with Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) in February last year with the goal of building a "city of education where children are happy." The city invested 2.9 billion KRW to create playground facilities on the entire 10,000㎡ vacant land of Mulchooul Park, and LH invested 4 billion KRW to complete the children's water playground.
The children's playground includes forest play, net play, self-powered seesaws, pump play, children's zipline, and swings with mothers, which were selected through a survey conducted in May last year. The water playground features various facilities inspired by Jinju Fortress and the Namgang River sailboat.
Additionally, a management building equipped with restrooms and showers, as well as various rest areas for users' convenience, have been completed.
The tree-planting ceremony was held in compliance with quarantine guidelines, with only related personnel attending, including Jinju Mayor Jo Gyu-il, LH President Kim Hyun-joon, City Council Chairman Lee Sang-young, and student representatives from the Children's Rights Monitoring Group.
Kim Hyun-joon, President of LH, said, "It is unfortunate that children cannot use the water playground this summer due to COVID-19. We will continue to discover and promote various projects for the local community."
Jinju Mayor Jo Gyu-il said, "I am pleased that Mulchooul Park has been transformed into a space where our children can safely and freely play. We will continuously identify and improve areas to establish it as a representative park of our city where the whole family can visit together."

A city official stated, "Although the water playground will not operate depending on the COVID-19 situation, the children's playground will remain open at all times. We ask citizens to comply with quarantine rules such as wearing masks when using the park."
