'Korean Liberation Army Signed Taegukgi' to be Displayed at Gwangsan-gu Office, Gwangju
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan District, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Samho) announced on the 13th that it will display the ‘Korean Liberation Army Signed Taegeukgi’ at the first-floor entrance of the district office building in celebration of the 76th Liberation Day.
This Taegeukgi was signed by fellow soldiers when Mr. Moon Ungmyeong (Moon Suyeol), who was active in the 2nd Platoon of the 3rd Detachment of the Korean Liberation Army in 1946, was transferred to another unit.
The flag is densely inscribed with writings expressing the Korean Liberation Army soldiers’ hopes for the independence of their homeland and their determination.
The original Taegeukgi is designated as a Registered Cultural Heritage and is currently housed at the Independence Hall of Korea. The Taegeukgi displayed by Gwangsan District is an enlarged reproduction made with permission from the Independence Hall of Korea.
Kim Samho, Mayor of Gwangsan District, stated, “By looking at the Taegeukgi imbued with the sacrificial spirit and will for independence of the Liberation Army, we will remember the patriots who willingly sacrificed their lives to leave behind a self-reliant Republic of Korea,” and added, “We will reflect on the meaning of liberation and overcome the current difficult situation together with our citizens.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Korean Liberation Army Signed Taegeukgi’ was installed on the first floor of the district office the day before and is scheduled to be on display until the end of this month.
