Thailand, 1 in 4 Citizens Receive COVID-19 Vaccination
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Thailand's COVID-19 vaccination rate has been estimated at about 24%.
According to local media The Nation on the 9th, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation announced that as of that day, 23.9% of the approximately 70 million population had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Among them, 6.7% have completed two doses of the vaccine, and 0.3% have received a third dose as a booster shot. Most of those who received the booster shot are medical and health personnel working on the front lines of COVID-19 response.
So far, a total of four types of vaccines have been administered in Thailand. Among them, the Chinese-made Sinovac vaccine accounted for the largest share at 48.77%, followed by AstraZeneca (43.95%), Sinopharm (7%), and Pfizer (0.28%).
By region, Phuket Province, where a sandbox scheme allowing quarantine-free entry for foreign COVID-19 vaccine recipients is in operation, had the highest vaccination rate at 75.9%.
The capital Bangkok, which accounts for up to 20% of new confirmed cases, was next with 70.2%. Rayong (41.6%) and Phang Nga (41.1%) provinces followed.
The Ministry of Higher Education stated, "Thailand ranks fourth in vaccination rate in the ASEAN region."

On this day, Thailand reported 19,603 new COVID-19 cases. There were 149 deaths, with 65% of them being elderly aged 60 or older.
