Daegu City Fills Disaster Relief Fund Gaps with 'Crisis Support'
Emergency Welfare Support and Hope Family Care Project Minimize Government Aid Gaps
Dalgu Beol Kidari Nanum Store and Dalgu Beol Welfare Mobile Team Activated for Crisis Detection and Support
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Various support projects for crisis households filling the gaps and limitations of the COVID-19 disaster relief funds are expected to be rapidly implemented in Daegu.
Daegu City has decided to promote welfare projects to reduce the crisis of vulnerable groups caused by the prolonged infectious disease and to minimize the gaps in government damage support projects.
They plan to swiftly carry out various support projects such as expanded emergency welfare operations, Hope Family Care, and the Dalgubeol Kidari Nanum Store project.
Recently, the government has promoted the 4th disaster relief fund project to support small business owners and crisis households affected by COVID-19.
Nevertheless, as the number of citizens experiencing difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation increases, Daegu City plans to support crisis households through expanded emergency welfare support and the Hope Family Care project to minimize the gaps following the end of the disaster relief fund project.
Daegu City extended the relaxed criteria for the emergency welfare support project, which was originally scheduled to end at the end of June this year, until the end of September.
They also secured an additional 12.6 billion KRW in national funds, organizing a total budget of 34.7 billion KRW to carry out the project.
Based on this, as of the end of July, support has been provided to 8,800 households with 17.7 billion KRW, and it is expected that about 17,500 households can be supported by the end of the year.
Additionally, through the Hope Family Care project, which relaxed the income criteria to 100% of the median income, about 750 households in the welfare blind spots not protected by public assistance including emergency welfare support will be supported.
In February this year, Daegu City opened 11 'Dalgubeol Kidari Nanum Stores' in collaboration with the Community Chest of Korea and the Metropolitan Donation Food Support Center.
So far, daily necessities worth about 30,000 KRW have been provided to 7,600 households facing temporary livelihood crises. They are discovering welfare blind spots and linking public welfare such as emergency welfare support with private resources to prevent livelihood accidents.
Daegu City plans to expand and promote these projects according to the COVID-19 situation.
Along with this, Daegu City plans to identify crisis situations of vulnerable groups through on-site visits using the Dalgubeol Welfare Mobile Unit, a community-based welfare service that alleviates daily inconveniences and prevents safety accidents for vulnerable groups. Depending on the situation, they will focus on COVID-19 response by linking customized welfare services.
