Gwangju City Provides Additional Support for 66 Eco-Friendly Electric Two-Wheelers
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 5th that it will provide additional subsidies for electric two-wheelers to expand the supply of eco-friendly two-wheelers and realize an energy self-sufficient city by 2045.
On February, the city held a public offering for 200 electric two-wheelers in the first round, and with additional budget secured, it will hold an additional public offering for 66 units.
Eligibility requirements are residents who have been registered in Gwangju for more than three months as of the application date, or companies and organizations with business locations in Gwangju, and support will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis according to delivery and registration order.
Applications can be submitted from the 13th until the budget is exhausted.
The eligible electric two-wheeler models include 35 light models, 29 small models, and 18 large/other models, totaling 82 models from 37 companies. Supported models can also be checked through the Ministry of Environment’s Low Emission Vehicle Integrated Website.
The subsidy amount ranges from 1.2 million KRW to 3.3 million KRW per unit, depending on the model type (light, small, large, other).
Citizens wishing to purchase electric two-wheelers can check the announcement posted on the city’s website on the 6th or the Low Emission Vehicle Integrated Website, then visit the sales office of the electric two-wheeler manufacturer or dealer to sign a purchase contract, and apply through the purchase subsidy support system on the Low Emission Vehicle Integrated Website via the sales office.
Purchasers who receive the electric two-wheeler subsidy must comply with the mandatory operation period of two years as stipulated in Article 79-3, Paragraph 1 of the Enforcement Rules of the Air Quality Preservation Act.

Na Haecheon, head of the city’s Air Quality Preservation Division, said, “Since 2016 until last year, Gwangju has supplied 419 electric two-wheelers, and following the public offering in February, we secured additional budget to promote the subsidy support project. We will continue to make efforts to reduce fine dust and greenhouse gas emissions by securing more budget next year.”
