Jindo-gun 'Heavy Rain Damage' River Improvement and Restoration to Be Carried Out Swiftly
179 Billion Won Secured... Improvement and Restoration Projects Confirmed for Gunnaecheon and Hyangdongcheon
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 4th that two rivers, Gunnaecheon and Hyangdongcheon, within the county have been selected as targets for improvement and restoration projects for disaster prevention, securing a total budget of 17.9 billion KRW.
Due to the heavy rainfalls on the 5th and 6th of last month, significant damage such as embankment collapse occurred among 22 local rivers in the jurisdiction, and the county has actively requested the government for permanent disaster prevention measures to restore the damage.
The county plans to invest 17.9 billion KRW to maintain 5.2 km of Gunnaecheon in Gunnae-myeon and reconstruct six bridges.
Additionally, Hyangdongcheon in Gogeun-myeon will undergo a comprehensive improvement and restoration project including 3.3 km of river maintenance, reconstruction of three bridges, and reinstallation of 14 weirs and drop structures to prevent redundant investments against repetitive damage.
A representative from the Jindo-gun Construction and Transportation Department stated, “We will promptly carry out the comprehensive improvement and restoration projects of the rivers to protect the precious lives and properties of the residents from typhoons and heavy rains.”
