Seoul City Provides Emergency Cooling Supplies to 15,000 Heat-Vulnerable Households
Support for cooling products such as fans and air conditioners, as well as bottled water and cool scarves for the homeless
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 4th, Seoul City and the Seoul Energy Welfare Citizen Fund announced that they are promoting a cooling supplies support project for vulnerable groups in welfare blind spots who are struggling due to this summer's record-breaking heatwave and the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The Seoul Energy Welfare Citizen Fund is a citizen-led fund operated by the Seoul Social Welfare Council designated by Seoul City, which supports energy-vulnerable groups through donations and goods contributed by citizens and companies, as well as profits earned by citizens through energy production and savings.
Seoul City is providing various cooling supplies such as fans, air conditioners, and cool mats, cooling expenses, and emergency relief items such as bottled water, saline glucose, cool scarves, and fans to homeless people who are particularly vulnerable to heatwaves. In addition, the city supports rooftop cool roof projects for social welfare facilities used by vulnerable groups, which not only block heat but also reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Seoul City has so far supported about 12,000 households out of the target 15,000 households including vulnerable groups, social welfare facilities, child welfare facilities, and local children's centers, and plans to promptly complete support for the remaining 3,000 households by the end of this month. Furthermore, if this heatwave continues, additional support will be provided until the heatwave is resolved.
If you want to help neighbors struggling with the heatwave, you can participate in non-face-to-face fundraising via bank transfer (Woori Bank, 1005-202-596612, Seoul Social Welfare Council) or QR code, and you can also donate by sending a text message to #70795050 (2,000 KRW per message). Seoul Eco Mileage members can also donate mileage accumulated by saving energy in daily life.
Chairman Kim Hyun-hoon said, "We ask for the interest of many people so that vulnerable groups who do not even have essential cooling supplies to endure the heatwave do not have a difficult summer," and added, "The Seoul Social Welfare Council will do its best for heatwave-vulnerable groups through the Seoul Energy Welfare Citizen Fund project."
