Gwangju Buk-gu Expands Operation of Water Sprinkler Trucks to Prepare for Prolonged Heatwave
Two Additional Water Cannon Trucks by September... Operated Four Times a Day
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 3rd that it will expand and operate water spraying trucks in anticipation of prolonged heatwaves this summer.
To respond to the heatwave, the district has deployed one large water spraying truck, spraying water twice a day on four sections of major roads with three or more lanes, totaling 132 km.
In addition, until the end of September, when a heatwave warning is issued, two additional water spraying trucks will be mobilized to conduct water spraying operations four times a day from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Spraying water on roads using water spraying trucks is known to help remove surface dust and reduce road radiant heat by about 6 to 7℃, thereby alleviating the urban heat island effect.
District Mayor Moon In of Buk-gu said, “We ask that you refrain from outdoor activities as much as possible during the hot afternoon hours,” and added, “We will actively respond to the heatwave by expanding and operating water spraying trucks and strive to provide a comfortable road environment.”
Meanwhile, Buk-gu is focusing on preventing safety accidents and minimizing heatwave damage through comprehensive natural disaster countermeasures for summer, protection measures for care crisis households and elderly living alone, and safety inspections at construction sites.
