Support for Regional Nonghyup Project Cost Sharing and Logistics Expenses Together
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do is promoting measures to stabilize the supply and demand of green onions to cope steadily with the recurring supply instability of winter vegetables such as green onions and napa cabbage.
On the 3rd, according to Jindo-gun, a council was formed with Jeollanam-do, the Nonghyup (National Agricultural Cooperative Federation), and cultivating farmers to stabilize the supply and demand of winter vegetables and expand farmers' income, and a meeting on the winter green onion vegetable price stabilization system was held.
Winter vegetables saw the cultivation area in Jindo-gun increase by 6% compared to last year to 1,087 hectares, due to unprecedented soaring prices of green onions last year and expectations of price increases this year.
The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) announced that the nationwide green onion cultivation area increased by 12% compared to last year.
Jindo-gun supports 50% of the local Nonghyup's vegetable price stabilization project contribution fee (10%) with county funds to secure stable contract quantities for winter vegetable supply and demand.
In addition, to ease the burden on farmers, logistics costs (transportation costs) for shipping winter vegetables are also supported. Applications for the vegetable price stabilization system can be made at the local Nonghyup in the resident's area.
