Shinsegae Food Expands Export Countries for 'Olban Meat-Free Dumplings'... Accelerates Overseas Market Penetration
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Shinsegae Food is accelerating its efforts to penetrate overseas markets by expanding the product lineup and export countries of its export-oriented 'Olban Meat-Free Dumplings.'
'Olban Meat-Free Dumplings' are frozen dumplings developed by Shinsegae Food and exported to the United States, Canada, and Australia since July last year. Instead of meat, they contain tofu, mushrooms, seafood, and vegetables, creating a meat-free product that preserves taste, texture, and healthiness. The varieties include four types: 'Savory Pollack Roe Dumplings,' 'Spicy Jjamppong Dumplings,' 'Galbi-flavored Dumplings,' and 'Seafood Boiled Dumplings.'
According to Shinsegae Food on the 2nd, overseas sales of the four types of 'Olban Meat-Free Dumplings' in the first half of this year (January to June) increased by 157% compared to the second half of last year (July to December). The increase in sales is attributed to the fact that consumers who prefer not to eat meat can enjoy them without burden, and that the dumplings have thinner skins than thick Chinese and Japanese-style dumplings, reducing carbohydrate content and filling the inside with vegetables and tofu, making them recognized as a healthy food.
Having confirmed the potential of 'Olban Meat-Free Dumplings' in overseas markets, Shinsegae Food expects steady demand for frozen dumplings and home meal replacements amid the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic and has decided to launch a full-scale market attack.
First, in addition to the existing four export products, three new types?'Shrimp King Gyoza,' 'Crispy Fried Dumplings,' and 'Buckwheat Pancake Dumplings'?have been newly developed, increasing the product lineup to a total of seven.
The export countries have also expanded from the United States, Canada, and Australia to a total of seven countries, including China, Japan, Singapore, and Indonesia. Along with this, the seven types of 'Olban Meat-Free Dumplings' to be shipped for the first time in the first week of August will engage in joint marketing with local distributors to increase consumer touchpoints and strengthen sales expansion.
