[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Korean male judo representative Jo Gu-ham (KH Group Philux) won a valuable silver medal.
On the 29th, Jo Gu-ham lost by ippon in golden score (overtime) to Japan's Aaron Wolf (25) in the men's 100kg final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics held at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. With this, Korea secured its first silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, following two bronze medals won earlier by An Ba-ul in the 66kg category and An Chang-rim in the 73kg category. This is the first men's 100kg silver medal in 17 years since Jang Sung-ho won silver at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Jo Gu-ham and Wolf exchanged one shido each in the early stages of the match, maintaining a tight contest. However, no winner was decided during the regular 4 minutes, leading to overtime.
In overtime, Jo Gu-ham received an additional shido first and was put under pressure, but soon Wolf also received a shido. Both players continuously attempted techniques, engaging in a fierce battle. However, at 5 minutes and 35 seconds into overtime, Jo Gu-ham was defeated by ippon from Wolf's ude-hishigi-hara-gatame (arm lock).
