LG Electronics and Korea Electric Power Corporation Join Hands for Energy Saving
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] LG Electronics has partnered with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to save energy used in households.
On the 29th, LG Electronics and KEPCO held a video conference and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the development of a "Power Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Customer Experience Home Energy Service." Attending the signing ceremony were Kim Taeyong, Head of Digital Transformation at KEPCO, and Lee Sangyong, Executive Vice President and Head of Advanced R&BD Center at LG Electronics' CTO division.
Under the agreement, both companies will cooperate to discover and develop services based on power data to help customers use energy efficiently.
First, LG Electronics plans to launch an integrated energy monitoring service on the LG ThinQ application as early as the second half of this year. LG ThinQ is a home appliance management app that helps keep appliances in optimal condition at all times.
Through the LG ThinQ app, customers can check various information such as energy consumption of appliances, electricity bills, and energy-saving methods. The integrated energy monitoring service will help customers use energy in a planned manner, especially during the summer when electricity bills are burdensome.
Subsequently, LG Electronics will provide more accurate information to customers by utilizing power data provided by KEPCO in this service. To use the power data-based energy monitoring service, customers need to install KEPCO's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) smart meter and register their customer information from KEPCO's energy marketplace (EN:TER) in the LG ThinQ app.
Additionally, LG Electronics plans to utilize KEPCO's power data and power grid connections for energy storage systems (ESS) and energy management-related technologies. They will discover big data-based services that can check energy storage status and optimize energy management to help reduce electricity bills.
From a mid- to long-term perspective, both companies will also collaborate to develop services that make electric vehicle (EV) charging more convenient. Using LG Electronics' EV charging management solutions and KEPCO's EV charger data, they plan to develop services that allow real-time monitoring of charger operation status and charging conditions. This service aims to enhance the convenience of EV use and expand the use of eco-friendly energy.
