Yoon Files Complaint Against Reporters on 'Kim Geon-hee Cohabitation Rumor'... Legal Action Begins
[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] The campaign team of Yoon Seok-yeol, a presidential candidate from the opposition party, has filed a complaint against media personnel who reported on cohabitation rumors related to Yoon's wife.
On the 28th, the People's Campaign announced through a press release that they had reported three individuals, including the CEO and a reporter of the YouTube channel Open Sympathy TV, to the Seocho Police Station on charges of trespassing and defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act.
They had raised suspicions that Yoon's wife, Kim Geon-hee, and former prosecutor Yang Mo were living together inappropriately. In response, the People's Campaign legal team emphasized that on the 24th, the suspects trespassed into the home of former prosecutor Yang's mother, Oh Mo, under the false pretense of "coming to have a fortune-telling session," and on the 26th, they defamed by spreading false cohabitation rumors through a YouTube broadcast.
The legal team explained, "We judged that we could no longer tolerate criminal acts that spread unspeakable lies under the guise of verification, targeting only their 'political interests' and 'broadcast revenue.'"
They also warned of additional complaints against other media outlets that cited and reported on this media. The legal team stated, "Starting with this complaint, we will take full legal action," and added, "If media outlets that spread false information based on Open Sympathy TV broadcasts do not immediately remove their articles and take measures, we will warn of further legal action."
Former prosecutor Yang's side also released a statement saying, "They must bear moral and legal responsibility for their shameless behavior." He said, "Open Sympathy TV and others are making false excuses that they actually visited my mother to have a fortune-telling session, but such false excuses mock my 94-year-old mother once again," and added, "Instead of reflecting and apologizing, they accuse me of lying by claiming my mother has dementia and demand that I provide a dementia diagnosis certificate. Because they keep telling all sorts of lies, I am compelled to disclose the dementia diagnosis certificate and prescription for dementia medication."
