The Lee Sang-su (Samsung Life) - Jeon Ji-hee (POSCO Energy) duo won against Egypt's Omar Assar and Dina Meshref in the round of 16 mixed doubles match held on the 24th at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Japan, securing a 4-1 victory (9-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8) in 41 minutes. Mixed doubles in table tennis was introduced for the first time in this tournament.
With this win, Lee Sang-su and Jeon Ji-hee will face the Lin Yun-ju and Cheng I-ching pair from Taiwan in the quarterfinals on the 25th.
Lee Sang-su and Jeon Ji-hee have a 0-2 record against Lin Yun-ju and Cheng I-ching. They lost 0-3 (5-11, 4-11, 9-11) in the round of 16 at the 2019 ITTF World Tour Platinum German Open, and 1-3 (12-10, 8-11, 9-11, 6-11) in the final of the World Table Tennis (WTT) Star Contender held last March.
