Vietnam COVID-19 New Cases Surpass 7,000... 'Highest Level Quarantine' Activated
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] Concerns about a major outbreak are growing as the number of new COVID-19 cases in Vietnam has exceeded 7,000.
According to Vietnamese health authorities on the 24th, 7,295 new cases were reported the previous day. Two days earlier, on the 22nd, a record high of 6,164 new cases was reported in a single day. Ho Chi Minh City reported 4,913 cases, while the capital Hanoi confirmed 70 cases.
As of the morning of the same day, 5,275 local infections have been confirmed nationwide, with 2,070 cases in Ho Chi Minh City. In Long An, near Ho Chi Minh City, 1,892 new cases were reported.
Hanoi City announced that starting from the 24th, social distancing measures will be raised to the highest level and maintained for the next 15 days. Accordingly, residents must stay at home except when purchasing groceries or medicine or going to work. They must maintain a minimum distance of 2 meters from others, and gatherings of more than two people are prohibited in public places other than workplaces, schools, and hospitals. Funeral attendance is limited to 20 people, and travel to other regions is banned.
Meanwhile, the Ho Chi Minh City Consulate General stated that as of the previous day, a total of 19 Koreans under its jurisdiction are isolated in hospitals and facilities due to confirmed cases. It also added that a Korean man in his 60s, whose death was reported on the 22nd, was confirmed positive after an autopsy by authorities.

A consulate official said, "The deceased reportedly experienced flu symptoms for 10 days but did not get tested and only took cold medicine at home," urging, "If you have symptoms, you must get tested."
