Ministry of the Interior and Safety to Prioritize Disaster Relief Fund of 20.8 Billion KRW for Residents in Southern Heavy Rain Damage Areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 23rd that it will provide disaster relief funds amounting to 20.8 billion KRW in advance, before finalizing the recovery plan, to support the early livelihood stabilization of residents affected by the heavy rains from the 5th to the 8th in the damaged areas of Haenam-gun, Jindo-gun, Gangjin-gun, and Jangheung-gun in Jeonnam, who suffered losses in human lives, housing, and agricultural, fishery, salt, and production sectors.
The scale of this support is 20.8 billion KRW of the national government’s share of disaster relief funds confirmed by local governments after verifying the damage, distributed by region as 6.9 billion KRW for Haenam, 4.0 billion KRW for Jindo, 2.3 billion KRW for Gangjin, and 2.3 billion KRW for Jangheung.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to alleviate the financial burden on local governments severely affected by the disaster through the national government’s share of support and to promptly provide disaster relief funds so that victims can smoothly return to their daily lives.
