A Second Fire Station Will Be Built in Hwaseong with a Population of 870,000 by 2025
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Hwaseong Dongbu Fire Station (tentative name) will be established in Dongtan New Town, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province by 2025, and the Guri Fire Station relocation project will be promoted.
The Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 22nd that the shared property management plan, which includes the construction of Hwaseong Dongbu Fire Station and the relocation of Guri Fire Station, passed the 2nd plenary session of the 353rd extraordinary meeting of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council on the 20th.
Hwaseong Dongbu Fire Station will be built at 664 Yeongcheon-dong, Hwaseong-si (Dongtan-daero 592), with one basement floor and three above-ground floors. The goal is to open in 2025, and it will be a new construction. The total project cost is 40.8 billion KRW.
Hwaseong area has the highest number of fires nationwide and covers a larger area (697 km²) than Seoul (605 km²), but there is only one fire station, Hwaseong Fire Station (Hyangnam-eup). In particular, due to the explosive population influx caused by the development of Dongtan 2 New Town and its status as a transportation hub, there have been many calls for the urgent establishment of a new fire station due to the rapid increase in fire service demand.
The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters expects that the establishment of a fire station in the eastern Hwaseong area will provide high-quality fire services to residents of Dongtan New Town and the eastern Hwaseong areas such as Taean and Jeongnam.
The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters is also promoting the relocation of Guri Fire Station with a target year of 2025.
The Guri Fire Station building is over 30 years old, severely deteriorated, narrow, and there are safety concerns due to the steep slope of the road in front of the fire station.
Once Guri Fire Station is relocated, the fire dispatch conditions throughout Guri will be greatly improved, and it is expected to strengthen fire services in the nearby Dasan New Town area of Namyangju City, according to the provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters.
It is said that the promotion of the construction of Hwaseong Dongbu Fire Station and the relocation of Guri Fire Station reflects the strong will of Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung.
