Seoul City and Seoul Foundation for Arts Support Artists with 3 Billion Won... Revitalizing the Culture and Arts Sector
Up to 60 Million KRW for Media-Based Art Activities like Online Exhibitions and Video Performances... Works to Be Released for Free
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture announced on the 21st that they will provide 'COVID-19 Art Support' worth 3 billion KRW. Following last year, the goal this year is to expand cultural enjoyment opportunities for citizens exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and to revitalize the shrinking cultural and artistic community.
With the expansion of artistic activities from offline to online platforms due to COVID-19, up to 60 million KRW will be supported for art creation activities based on online media such as video content and web-based exhibitions. The results will be made freely available through platforms like YouTube so that anyone can enjoy them.
For works where face-to-face methods are unavoidable, such as small-scale street art performances, or where online content production is difficult, 12 pieces will be selected through a public contest. Performances will be held over one month from September to October at locations such as Seoul Forest Park, Seonyudo Park, and West Seoul Lake Park, bringing performances into citizens' daily lives.
The COVID-19 art support areas include online platform-based art creation (1.7 billion KRW), preparation for artists' art creation (1 billion KRW), and circus and street art (300 million KRW).

Joo Yong-tae, Acting CEO of the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, said, “Considering the situation where artists' creative activities have been restricted and citizens' opportunities for cultural enjoyment have decreased due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we have prepared support policies that satisfy both artists and citizens. Through this support project, we will do our best to provide practical help to the shrinking activities of artists and offer diverse cultural content to citizens.”
