BTS 'Butter' Sells 1.97 Million Copies in One Week... Tops Domestic Album Sales This Year

According to the album sales tracking site Hanteo Chart on the 16th, BTS's single CD 'Butter,' released on the 9th, sold a total of 1,975,364 copies during the one-week period from July 9 to 15. This is the highest sales volume among albums released this year. With this, BTS has dominated the top four spots for the highest first-week sales in history, following their 4th full album 'MAP OF THE SOUL : 7' released in February last year (3.37 million copies), 'BE' released in November last year (2.27 million copies), and 'MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA' released in April 2019 (2.13 million copies).
The single CD 'Butter' includes a total of four tracks: the digital single 'Butter' released on May 21, the new song 'Permission to Dance,' and instrumental versions of both songs.
On music charts, both 'Butter' and 'Permission to Dance' are recording outstanding performances. 'Butter' debuted at number one on the US Billboard main singles chart 'Hot 100' and has held the top spot for seven consecutive weeks as of the latest chart dated July 17. In the 2021 mid-year report released by MRC Data, it ranked first as the most downloaded song in the US during the first half of the year.
'Permission to Dance' has topped major domestic music charts and also ranked number one on Japan's Oricon latest chart (dated July 19) with 40,000 downloads recorded in just three days, securing the top spot on the 'Weekly Digital Single Ranking.'
