Incheon Main Customs "Submit Traveler FTA Supporting Documents via Email"
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Incheon Main Customs Office announced on the 15th that travelers entering through Incheon Airport can now use photos taken with their smartphones of the original Certificate of Origin as proof to apply the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) tariff rates.
Starting this month, if travelers take photos of receipts issued overseas with their smartphones and send them via email before customs inspection, there is no need to submit the original documents. Detailed submission methods can be found on the Incheon Main Customs Office website.
FTA tariff rates apply when importing goods produced and sold in countries that have signed an FTA with South Korea, and these rates are significantly lower than the simplified tariff rates (20%~50%) usually applied to travelers during taxation.
Previously, to receive these benefits, travelers had to check 'Apply FTA Tariff Rate' on the customs declaration form upon entry and submit the original Certificate of Origin or purchase receipt issued at the time of purchase to customs.
