Gwangyang City Art Troupe, Successful 2021 Regular Concert
A Colorful Feast of Contemporary Music and Gugak
[Gwangyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] The Gwangyang City Municipal Arts Troupe announced on the 13th that their eagerly prepared regular concert celebrating the 11th anniversary of their founding was successfully concluded.
The concert consisted of the Municipal Choir's performance of 'Requiem' held on June 24 at the Gwangyang Culture and Arts Center, and the Municipal Gugak Orchestra's 'Taepyeongseongdae' held on July 7.
This performance minimized on-site seating to ensure citizens could safely enjoy the concert during the COVID-19 era, and was broadcast live in real-time through the YouTube channel, receiving great response from many citizens who could not visit the venue.
The Municipal Choir, under the direction of Nogihwan, presented a masterpiece choral performance to citizens weary from COVID-19 through Mozart's 'Requiem,' considered one of his greatest works, featuring soprano Yoon Hanna, mezzo-soprano Chu Huimyung, tenor Son Youngho, baritone Kim Hyunggi, and orchestral accompaniment.
The Municipal Gugak Orchestra, led by conductor Kang Jonghwa, featured Gwangyang-born singer Baek Hyunho, taepyeongso player Kim Jongseop, dancer Kang Jiyeon, and samulnori performer Yoo So, captivating citizens' eyes and ears with a variety of performances including gugak songs, Namdo folk songs, and Taepyeongmu, delivering lively and exciting music.
A citizen who visited the venue said, "Due to COVID-19, cultural and artistic performances were almost nonexistent, which was very disappointing, so it was great to be able to enjoy a wonderful performance in Gwangyang that the whole family, young and old, could enjoy together."
Tak Younghee, Director of the Culture and Arts Division, said, "We are grateful that many citizens showed interest and participated in the first concert held this year to celebrate the 11th anniversary of the Municipal Arts Troupe's founding," adding, "We will strive to prepare various cultural performances in the second half of the year to provide citizens with opportunities to enjoy culture."
