Export Value from 1st to 10th This Month $15.08 Billion... 14.1% Increase YoY
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Export amounts from the 1st to the 10th of this month increased by nearly 15% compared to the same period last year. Attention is focused on whether export growth will continue for the ninth consecutive month since November last year.
According to the Korea Customs Service on the 12th, the export amount from July 1 to 10 (provisional customs clearance basis) was $15.08 billion, an increase of 14.1% ($1.87 billion) compared to the same period last year.
The number of working days during this period was 8 days, 0.5 days fewer than last year (8.5 days). The average daily export amount, reflecting the number of working days, increased by 21.2%.
In statistics not considering the number of working days, exports of petroleum products (54.2%), automobile parts (45.3%), wireless communication devices (31.1%), passenger cars (19.3%), and semiconductors (15.6%) showed strong performance. Exports of computer peripherals decreased by 31.5%.
By country, exports increased across major markets including the United States (32.2%), European Union (EU, 26.9%), Middle East (17.8%), Japan (12.2%), Vietnam (4.6%), and China (1.6%).

Imports up to the 10th of this month amounted to $19.01 billion, an increase of 33.3% ($4.75 billion) compared to the same period last year. In statistics not considering the number of working days, imports of passenger cars (165.7%), crude oil (85.7%), gas (80.6%), and semiconductors (19.1%) increased significantly. Wireless communication devices (-23.9%) decreased. By country, imports increased from Australia (86.7%), EU (49.6%), United States (48.8%), Middle East (23.5%), China (11.8%), and Japan (8.9%).
